Base Layers
Understanding Base Layers in FowlTracker
FowlTracker provides three different base map layers to help you navigate and plan your hunts effectively. Each base layer offers a unique perspective, allowing you to choose the best view for scouting terrain, identifying water sources, and locating public access areas.
You can switch between base layers at any time by selecting the Map Layers menu on the left side of the screen.
Standard (OpenStreetMap)
The Standard base layer uses OpenStreetMap, providing a detailed and familiar street map view. This layer is useful for:
- Identifying roads, trails, and landmarks.
- Seeing property boundaries and access points.
- Getting a general overview of hunting areas.
Aerial (Esri)
The Aerial base layer uses Esri satellite imagery, offering a bird’s-eye view of the landscape. This layer is helpful for:
- Viewing water bodies, wetlands, and vegetation coverage.
- Scouting potential roosting and feeding areas.
- Assessing terrain features that may not be visible on a standard map.
Terrain (OpenTopoMap)
The Terrain base layer uses OpenTopoMap, which provides topographical details such as elevation lines and landscape contours. This is particularly useful for:
- Understanding elevation changes and terrain features.
- Identifying valleys, hills, and marshy areas.
- Planning access routes for difficult-to-reach locations.
